Category C: Most innovative approach to medicines information (Sponsored by IMS Health)
Winner
Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust
Following the success of their Giving Medicines information sheets, Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust developed a more accessible and practical approach to describing how to give medicines to children with a series of podcasts. The ‘Giving medicines to children Podcasts’ are available in audio and visual format and demonstrate how to give different formats of medicines to children. As well as being available online, the podcasts will be shown on a video screen in the new Pharmacy Waiting Area, opened in May 2008.
Runner Up
Parkinson's Disease Society
In April 2006 the Parkinson’s Disease Society launched the ‘Get it on time’ campaign to ensure that people with Parkinson’s receive their medication on time, every time during a stay in hospital. The Parkinson’s Disease Society took a novel approach to providing medicines information by producing ‘Get it on time’ wash bags. The wash bags contain tips and advice as well as materials to give to staff to help people with Parkinson’s who are admitted into hospital get their medication on time during their hospital stay. Country-specific complaints leaflets have also been produced as part of this initiative. To date they have provided 4,500 wash bags to people with Parkinson’s disease.
